Throughout the years, the Afdent facility in Fort Wayne relied upon Grinsfelder Associates Architects as modifications and expansions were required for their offices located in a strip mall on the north side of Fort Wayne. When they had finally outgrown that space and were looking to build a brand new, state-of-the-art dental facility, they once again approached Grinsfelder Associates to oversee the design and construction.
The new 30,000 square foot building occupies a site just a few blocks to the south of the old Afdent location. The three-story building includes over thirty exam rooms, with space for additional exam rooms to be added at a later date. The new exam rooms are divided into suites, each with its own individual waiting room and staff support. This concept allowed the facility to be divided into individual departments for hygiene, dentures, surgery, and emergency appointments.
Client and staff comfort and satisfaction were very important to the owner. Careful attention was paid to materials, lighting, and finishes. Waiting areas with refreshments, children’s play space, and public computers with internet access ensure a pleasant experience for guests as they wait. Staff lounges on each floor allow space for employees to relax between clients and during breaks. An outdoor patio was also created for staff to utilize during lunch or break times.
