Facility Renovation and Restoration

100 South Main Street
Auburn, Indiana

Due to steady growth, the DeKalb County Courthouse could no longer provide adequate working environments for county offices. An extensive space planning study was completed to evaluate the effective use of existing first and second floor areas. Handicapped requirements were integrated into the project, including the installation of a new hydraulic elevator. In addition, the existing courthouse basement was renovated to provide a central storage space to be used by the entire building.

The caseload of the court system made courtroom expansion on the third floor of the building necessary. This expansion, which included a new courtroom and restoration of the District Courtroom, required the relocation of adjacent office facilities to former meeting rooms on the first floor of the courthouse.

In the final phase of the project, the Circuit Courtroom was completely restored to its original splendor. The project included restoring the art glass ceiling, reproductions of the original chandeliers, and recreating the original hand painted stenciling on the walls. State of the art audio and video technology was also integrated into the courtroom.
