New Community Building

2135 Hanna Street
Fort Wayne, Indiana

This new building was the outcome of a collaborative effort between the Fort Wayne Urban League, Pontiac Youth Center, and Grinsfelder Associates Architects.

The new Fort Wayne Urban League facility was developed as a part of the redevelopment of the Hanna – Creighton neighborhood on the southeast side of Fort Wayne. The goal of the overall project was to create a community campus with facilities focused on the development and education of both young people and adults. In addition to the Fort Wayne Urban League, Grinsfelder Associates designed new buildings on the site for a new Headstart facility and the Pontiac Branch of the Allen County Public Library.

The Fort Wayne Urban League’s new building was designed as a new wood frame structure with brick veneer. The building houses both the offices of the Fort Wayne Urban League and the Pontiac Youth Center. Special design considerations involved being able to secure various sections of the building while allowing others to remain open after normal business hours, yet still provide code required exits and easy access and interaction during normal business hours.
