New Funeral Home for the Catholic Cemetery

3500 Lake Avenue
Fort Wayne, Indiana

For nearly 150 years, the Catholic Cemetery in Fort Wayne has been serving the needs of the Fort Wayne-South Bend Diocese.  To continue its mission, Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades supported the addition of a new funeral home to the Catholic Cemetery grounds.  In a statement following the approval of the project, Rhoades said, “In this Jubilee Year of Mercy, we have focused on the corporal and spiritual works of mercy, which include praying for and burying the dead and comforting those who mourn.  The focus on Divine Mercy will bring consolation to those who are grieving as we entrust the souls of the faithful departed to the mercy of God.”

At approximately 17,000 square feet, the new Divine Mercy Funeral Home houses two visitation rooms overlooking the manicured cemetery grounds, a crematorium, an embalming facility, and the relocated offices for the Catholic Cemetery.

According to Casey Miller, Catholic Cemetery superintendent, “Divine Mercy Funeral Home will complete Catholic Cemetery’s mission in burying the dead and better allow us to guide and comfort, in Catholic tradition, those who have lost someone they love.  This funeral home is a natural extension of the pastoral care that Catholic Cemetery has offered since 1873.”
